Our knowledge of the roles of paracrine factors in organ formation and our ability to clone the genes that produce those factors have propelled what Susan Bryant (1999) has called "a regeneration renaissance."
These lipopolysaccha- rides activate some non-hepatocytes to secrete paracrine factors that allow the remaining hepatocytes to re-enter the cell cycle.
The Kupffer cell secretes interleukin 6 (1L6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (which are usually involved in activating the adult immune system), and the stellate cells secrete the paracrine factors hepcrtocyte growth factor (HGF, or scatter factor) and TGF-p.
In the third instar leg disc, the center of the disc secretes the highest concentration of two morphogens, Wingless (Wg, a Wnt paracrine factor) and Decapentaplegic (Dpp, a BMP paracrine factor).
